Storyline

STINKFRUCHT / TASTE OF HOME is about two girls who have to find their way in the adult world far too early. About the taste of home that unites them. And about their friendship that doesn't even last 48 hours. A coming-of-age drama told against the harrowing backdrop of human trafficking and modern slavery of young Vietnamese in Germany. The narrative focus of the story is on the relationship between Mai and Linh. Their language barriers, cultural differences and youthful innocence are giving the film a playful and lively tone. We get a glimpse of a milieu and social class of people with migrant background, told in an authentic and realistic way. Our film is about growing up, about friendship and family and about positioning oneself and standing up for one's beliefs. We experience the abyss of human trafficking through the eyes of a child and through her innocent nature. Our goal is to make the people behind the anonymous numbers of people trafficked each year tangible and want to tell one out of a thousand stories of a girl who left her home home behind and is looking for a new home.

About the film/director

Âni Võ is a Vietnamese-German director and screenwriter.
She worked as a 1st AD on several film sets in Germany and Vietnam and participated in the Writers Room of the SyFy- series SPIDES. In 2016 she started to study directing at HFF Munich and realised various fictional short films as a director, screenwriter and producer. In 2020 she was awarded Best Student Director at the European Cinematography Awards. Âni directed three episodes of a TV-series for a major German broadcaster in 2022 and is currently also working as a head writer for an upcoming series by Studio Zentral.
